The Hollywood Saxophone Quartet playing a marvelous Lennie Niehaus arrangement of the Vernon Duke standard, “Taking A Chance On Love” - recorded in 1955 by Russ Cheever (ss), Jack Dumont (as), Morrie Crawford (ts), Bill Ulyate (bs), Mike Rubin (b), Dick Cornell (d). Seriously fine playing from seasoned studio musicians, they were active the Los Angeles area from 1950 until 1970.

Albert Nicholas (May 27, 1900, New Orleans, Louisiana – September 3, 1973, Basel, Switzerland) and a group of French musicians interpreting Clarinet Marmalade in 1954, nearly 40 years after the ODJB recorded it in 1918. 

It’s amazing how much life can be in one of these old pianos, given they have led a moderately charmed existence. Regular or semi-regular tunings, periodic maintenance / repairs, a stable environment - all of these factors can greatly influence the longevity of a piano…
